Charles Meyer Named VP at Gemesis
The Gemesis Corp, which manufactures synthetic diamonds, announced the appointment of Charles A. Meyer as vice president of sales. "We are delighted to have attracted such a high-caliber executive from the diamond industry," says Carter W. Clarke, chairman of the board of Gemesis.
Since October, 2001, Meyer has been vice president for sales at Lazare Kaplan International Inc., New York City, the 102-year-old company known for popularizing the original ideal-cut diamond. Meyer previously served as managing director of Bellataire Diamonds, Inc., an LKI subsidiary. Bellataire Diamonds markets high-quality diamonds that have been treated by a proprietary process developed by General Electric. Before Bellataire, Meyer served for twenty years as president of Henry Meyer Diamond Co., Inc., a third-generation fancy shape and natural fancy color diamond company. A graduate of Yale University, Meyer is also currently a director of the Diamond Manufacturers and Importers Association.
"Gemesis represents an extraordinary opportunity for me to make major contributions to activities I consider important to both the consumer and the trade: to popularize a beautiful new [synthetic] diamond of exceptional value, to protect the diamond industry by maintaining the highest of ethical and competitive standards, to participate in the success of a unique company that is now poised for exponential growth, and to use this success to foster humane and ecological values wherever we can," said Meyer in a press release. "While it was a difficult decision to leave an industry leader, Gemesis is a natural fit for me. I am particularly impressed with Gemesis' sponsorship of Diamonds for Humanity."
Meyer will lead the Gemesis New York sales and marketing office. He will be responsible for developing and implementing the sales strategy to expand consumer access to synthetic diamonds and extend Gemesis leadership in the category. "Chuck's industry experience, combined with his vision for how technology can benefit and grow the diamond industry, made him the perfect addition to our team," says David Hellier, president of Gemesis. "He brings to Gemesis a passion for fancy colors, an appreciation for the benefits technology can produce for the consumer, and the ability to help retailers realize the exceptional business opportunity inherent in Gemesis [synthetic] diamonds. With Bellataire, Chuck successfully proved that technology, with proper disclosure and training, can benefit both the trade and the consumer. And yet he speaks the language of the traditional diamantaire. We are fortunate to have him on board. "
