Wynonna Judd Sings for DTC in Vegas

On May 31, YouthAIDS U.S. Music Ambassador Wynonna Judd will perform at the new Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas during the Diamond Trading Co.-In Style party benefiting YouthAIDS, with supporting sponsors Couture Jewellery Collection & Conference, Roberto Coin and Saks Fifth Avenue. YouthAIDS, implemented by Population Services International, is a global initiative that uses music, media, fashion and sports to spread messages of HIV prevention to young people in more than 60 countries. YouthAIDS provides a platform for corporate involvement and works to mobilize and engage corporations and the entertainment industry in HIV/AIDS prevention.

The DTC event will kick off a diamond fundraising initiative for YouthAIDS. Roberto Coin created a bracelet with diamond charms of Africa in both sterling silver and 18K gold. With a retail of $400 for the sterling silver bracelet and $950 for the 18k yellow gold version, they will be available at select Saks Fifth Avenue stores as well as select Roberto Coin authorized retailers. A portion of proceeds from the sale of each charm and bracelet will go directly to YouthAIDS.

The initiative was created to make a collective effort within the diamond industry to raise money for YouthAIDS. It was spearheaded by Sally Morrison, director of the Diamond Information Center. Morrison recently accompanied YouthAIDS Global Ambassador Ashley Judd to South Africa, where they toured various hospitals and onsite clinics funded by De Beers. Judd and the group saw the positive results that were being accomplished through an industry effort.

De Beers is proactive in corporate responsibility efforts towards HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention for its work force, says Morrison. "For us, it is a natural fit for the diamond industry to help in the battle against HIV/AIDS. If the U.S, the largest diamond market in the world, can help by purchasing a cool chic diamond charm, then I am hopeful the trade will foster similar programs which will benefit the people of Africa and ultimately the diamond miners and the industry itself."

"YouthAIDS, along with our ambassadors Wynonna and Ashley Judd, are thrilled to be working with such a dynamic group of industry leaders," says Kate Roberts, founder and director of YouthAIDS. "With one child dying of AIDS every minute and an estimated 4.9 million new HIV infections in 2004, it is imperative that industries come together to help fight this terrible epidemic. Wynonna's performance at Couture will be the start of what I hope is a long and rewarding relationship between YouthAIDS and the diamond industry as we come together to help in this great cause."
