Diamdel Offers Support to Antwerp

Diamdel, a rough diamond trading company within the De Beers Group that sells rough to non-DTC sightholders, has partnered with the Diamond, Jewellery & Management Institute, a joint initiative of the HRD Antwerp World Diamond Center and the University of Antwerp Management School. Through this partnership, Diamdel joins leading diamond industry stakeholders around the world as a key sponsor of this education, training and research initiative.

"Diamdel's engagement and resulting cosponsorship of the Institute represents an ideal synergy for us: it adequately reflects both our vision for helping to globally encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of the developing industry and also our passion for playing an immediately tangible role in enhancing the sustainability of small businesses within centres such as Antwerp," said Frank Auger, managing director of Diamdel NV.

"This initiative will allow us to provide our clients with access to DJMI¹s informative, relevant and topical diamond industry related courses twinned with workshops focusing on contemporary business management subjects," said Auger.

Marcel Pruwer, directordevelopment at the DJMI and the conceptual founder of DJMI, said the global footprint of Diamdel and its presence in key diamond centers complements DJMI's mission to offer world-class education and technical skills to the industry. Pruwer added that Diamdel's presence in the key cutting centers and in Southern Africa and Greater China would also enable DJMI to channel its teaching and education courses to active diamond businesses at different stages in the diamond pipeline.

DJMI was launched in November 2004 by the HRD and the University of Antwerp Management School. As the world's first industry-specific graduate-level teaching and research institution, DJMI was conceived in response to the clear challenge the global diamond industry to raise its technical, management, entrepreneurial and leadership skills. The industry's concern to demonstrate compliance, good governance and business best-practice matches key programs of DJMI.

DJMI combines teaching across all aspects of diamonds with intensive business and management education, including tailored courses for individual companies. DJMI at UAMS is less than a 10-minute walk from the Antwerp diamond area.
