FTC Extends Date for Public Comment on Platinum

The Federal Trade Commission has extended its deadline for public comments on whether the platinum section of the FTC Guides for the Jewelry, Precious Metals and Pewter Industries should be amended to provide guidance on how to non-deceptively mark or describe products containing between 500 and 850 parts per thousand pure platinum and no other platinum group metals. The new deadline is Oct. 12, the previous date was Sept. 28.

The Jewelers Vigilance Committee.will file comments on behalf of the American Gem Society, Manufacturing Jeweler & Suppliers of America, Jewelers of America and its own organization. JVC will incorporate the results of the research and survey work it has conducted, as well as other research and survey work done in conjunction with the Platinum Task Force, cochaired by JVC, JA and MJSA.
