India Show Dates Change

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India changed dates for the India International Jewellery Show-IIJS 2006. The gem and jewelry trade fair will be held May 4-8 instead of April 27-May 1, at the NSE Grounds at Goregaon in Mumbai, India.

"After we announced the dates for IIJS 2006, the Council received numerous requests from the members and trade fraternity to shift the dates due to the auspicious festivals Akshay Tritiya and Baisakhi," said Bakul R. Mehta, chairman, GJEPC. "The two festivals are of immense significance to the trade across nation, as majority annual sale takes place on these days. In acknowledgement of popular demand the Council has decided to postpone the show by a week to suit the requirements of the Indian gem and jewelry fraternity.

"We hope that the upcoming IIJS 2006 will further build on the success of the previous shows and continue to provide a platform for the Indian as well as international gem and jewelry industry to showcase their strengths and capabilities."

IIJS 2005 attracted more than 25,000 domestic visitors and 1,500 international visitors, resulting in an approximate increase in business by 20% as compared to the previous year, according to GJEPC. IIJS 2006 will host delegations representing key and emerging international markets such as Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Holland and Poland in addition to the regular visitors from established markets.
